Following the US Bishops “Renewing the Vision” the St. Joseph/St. Raphael High School Youth Ministry is ministry to, ministry with, ministry by, and ministry for the youth.
Youth Ministry for all high school students at St. Joseph/St. Raphael includes:
Advocacy- examining how well teens are integrated into the life of the community.
Catechesis- Learning more about Jesus, Church teachings, Scripture, Sacraments and living a Catholic Christian life.
Community Life- building an environment of love and support with an appreciation of diversity.
Evangelization- sharing the good news that the reign of God is realized in and through Jesus.
Justice & Service- reaching out to those in need both within and outside the parish.
Leadership Development- affirming and empowering talents in teens and adults.
Pastoral Care- caring for teens and families in crisis through support and counseling.
Prayer & Worship- awaking the awareness of the spirit at work in their lives through communal prayer and liturgical experiences, especially the Eucharist.
Youth ministry is built on the relationships between Jesus, the High School student and other members of the parish begun at baptism and nourished in the Eucharist. All activities are to help these relationships to grow and bear fruit by supporting the wonderful relationship the Lord has forged in their lives with parents, friends, Godparents, grandparents, confirmation sponsors, catechists at CCHS and CCD and other members of our faith community. These activities supplement the students’ experience of Jesus in the Eucharist and in their primary Catechetical programs at Catholic Central, High School CCD or Home Catholic Schooling.
This time is planned by the student and adult Core Team members to meet some of the social and spiritual needs of Catholic high school students. Some of the past activities include bowling, Scripture reflection, canoeing, camping trips, pizza & ping pong, and serving at the Springfield Soup Kitchen. Students are encouraged to stop by throughout the year.
Activities are planned by the Youth Group Core Team. The team is composed of students and adults who gather one Sunday each month at 11:40 for a pizza lunch in the St. Raphael Parish Center or Hoban Hall. The Core Team is open to all High School members of the parish. Each year the team goes on a reward trip. Adult members of the team participate in the Archdiocesan Youth Ministry Certification Program.
